TRAPANI
Trapani is a city with an elegant design, with a characteristic sickle shape and baroque architecture in light stone and a strong Arab imprint.
It rises in a flat area that stretches close to the sea and ends with two points occupied respectively by the Ligny Tower and a lazaretto, today the seat of the local section of the Italian Naval League.
The beating heart of Trapani is the port, in the historic center.
The city can be easily visited on foot.
The artistic heritage is vast. There are really many churches in the city.
At the eastern end of the city center stands the large Annunziata Complex, the main city monument, where, behind the main altar, is the Chapel of the Madonna.
Nearby is the former convent which now houses the city museum, the “Pepoli Museum”.
Various churches are worth seeing throughout the historic center, such as: the church of San Francesco d’Assisi, the church of the Capuchins, the church of San Pietro and the church of Purgatory.
In Corso Vittorio Emanuele stands the beautiful Cathedral, dedicated to S. Lorenzo and built in the 1600s on a previous fourteenth-century building.
